Flood Day (or a Day To Knit)

I snagged the photo from here. There is more detail and photos in the article here. The photo is from downtown Fredericton, NB, and you can see the road in the picture from my office window. That might help to explain why I'm not working today. We're having a flood day! And we may get another tomorrow.
So - what shall I do today? Well, Younger Son turns 8 tomorrow, so I've baked birthday cake this morning. And I've started in on my laundry. Fortunately it is a sunny day, since we don't really need anymore water, so I can hang things out on the line. And if I'm a lucky knitter, I'll manage to get in some extra knit time today.
While the flood has given me a "bonus" day off, it is wrecking havoc on many people's lives. My next door neighbour has brought in sandbags and hay bales to try to protect his home from the rising waters. The view from the crest of the shore is typically beautiful, but times like this also make me realize the wisdom of the settlers in the placement of their homes - built on the top of hills away from the high water mark!

Yeah for the bonus day! And Happy Birthday to son the younger. I remember Kay and Ann discussing 8 yr. old boys and armpit fart noises last year. So, I'm sure that's what this year is for you. =0) I remember that year with my brother. All my boys know how to do yet is pop the sandwich bags after they remove the food. When there's a flood day, do the kids get off school too?

I would love a flood day! Well, maybe not, but a day off would be good:) I hope you get in some excellent knitting time today:)

Yet another day with sun in NB and dull overcast not-quite-raining in NS, and you can hang out your laundry while I have to put it in the dryer.

*sigh* I never thought I'd admit it, but NB has at least one thing better than NS, and that would be spring.

Happy Birthday to the "big guy"! My seven year old is already convinced that he's really eight. The 2 year old swears he's really fifteen!

Happy bonus day and happy birthdy to son the younger. He is almost exactly 1 year older than big gurl. (29th of April)
Was thinking of you when I heard about the warnings. Stay dry and knitting...

Goodness! I have to tell you I have a recurring nightmare about water flooding a road...so your photo freaked me out a little. The difference is that in my dream there isn't a pretty scene at all... LOL

Hopefully, your neighbor was able to protect everything. You are correct, there had to be some wisdom with the older folks when they settled areas. I wonder if we have learned anything from them....Happy Belated B-day to Younger Son!
