Scavenger Hunt: The Photos
If you go here, you can read all of the descriptions for the wonderful things that Penny included in my Scavenger Hunt Swap package. Since the camera had gone travelling at the time, the photos had to wait, so without further delay, here you go! I've put everything in the same order as the original post so I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Lows and Highs

If you looked down on the ground today, you might have found me sprawled on the sidewalk or under my car in the sitter’s driveway… I was kind of afraid that the under the car thing was going to result in an “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” moment. Aren’t I too young for that? Enough of the ice and snow already. Unfortunately there is more of it in the forecast tomorrow and again on Friday. So those were a couple of lows today.
Fortunately, our stop at the mailbox was more of a high point to the day. We have one of those lovely Canada Post Superboxes so that the postal workers don’t have to put too much of an effort into delivering our rural mail. (I’ll tell you the moving the mailbox multiple times story sometime when I’m really peeved at our local post mistress.) Having managed to get myself out from under the car once, I wasn’t risking a second time, so Older Son very kindly retrieved the mail. Isn’t it nice when the kids are useful? Just junk mail in the regular mailbox, but there was a key to a package compartment…
I was waiting on two packages – one being something from (Not So) Cynical Knitting Gal’s contest (I had received confirmation from the United States Postal Service that it had been posted) and the other being my Scavenger Hunt Package. Which one would it be? It was my Scavenger Hunt Package from Penny!
And then there was another low… The realization that the camera has gone away with Mr. Me to Halifax for a couple of days and then a couple of days in St. John’s. Ack! I can’t take pictures until he gets home. I (very) briefly considering letting Penny know that it had arrived and explaining about the photos, but I decided that I’d just open it and try to describe everything.
So here goes:
The box was a 12 by 8 ¾ by 9 ¾ Smurfit-MBI recycled corrugated box – hey – she’d already hit the green category! (As a side note, I mention the brand of the box because it always makes me think of the Smurfs…) Upon opening the box I found a layer of sparkly red tissue paper covering all of the packages. The packages were wrapped in tissue – green, red, plaid, floral and one item was in a lime green bag… I just kept on taking them out of the box. There were 15 in total! I opened them in the order that they were described / identified in the accompanying letter…
First - “Green” was 3 balls of a lovely green shade of On-line “Tessa”, wrapped in green tissue paper and a green floral lei. It was purchased at Woseley Wardrobe, who even have their own Ravelry group! Very nice…
Second - “Hard” was a very sweet sheet mug with a hard vacuum packed bag of Irish Cream coffee.
Third – “Local” #1 and “local” #2. How great is that? Local #1 is a box of Morden’s Toasted Marshmallows. I’ll try to keep the kids out of them until I can snap a picture. They look and smell luscious… Local #2 is a skein of local 100% wool hand dyed sock weight yarn. It is heathered in shades of aqua blue, mauve and pink. Penny very wisely warned me that it is NOT superwash… (She must have read about some of my unfortunate felting episodes.)
Fourth – “Spoiler’s Choice”. Spoiler’s choice included 6 separate packages. There is a very sweet and lovely amigurumi book (those things just keep hollering at me) and 5 little packages with assorted yarns from Penny’s stash to make ‘gurumis. Now I think that that was a lovely thing to do in so many ways – it has given me a great colour selection and it would have also been suitable for the green category – and recycling is always a good thing. Love it!!! And there were 3 bags of sour candies to munch while I create ‘gurumis.
Fifth – “Round”. Round was a “Round Tuit”. What is this? It is a very pretty round box that is labelled “tuit”, with the explanation inside of how this should make my life easier since you’re always hearing people say they’ll do something when they get a “round tuit”. (Inside the “tuit” there is a round notebook and pen. The pen is from Penny doing decoy mail, but I’m going to have to ask her to explain that since I don’t know what it is.)
Sixth – “T is for Tiny”. Tiny as in tiny knitting needles, beads and crochet cotton with which I can make an amulet bag. The beads are a very pretty blue and the crochet cotton is a sort of cerise-y pink. Pretty!
And finally, “FUN-ny”. What knitter wouldn’t want a set of knitting word magnets? Very fun and very funny. My kids are going to LOVE these on the fridge!
At the very end there was a package that had a note on it to open it last. Inside there were patterns for a scarf to go with the green yarn (Ribbons Scarf from Yarn Yenta) and for the Bead Knitted Amulet Bag from S. Debra Santaniello.

More Contests!
Knitting Gal is having a contest to celebrate 1000 blog hits. When she started the contest, the 1000 mark was approaching, but looking at her counter, she's recently surpassed it. I just need to wrap them and post them. Guess what I'm planning on doing Monday at lunch time? My co-workers are enjoying that I've started to wrap this stuff at the office - especially the knitting ones. Although one of them thought that the funny part of my Scavenger Hunt package was a voodoo doll... What? Although that could be funny... I think that my downstream pal will "get it" and find it amusing.

Thanks for the comment on my blogiversary contest. If you win, I'll hold your prize until the BIG REVEAL. You did manage to post your comment anonymously, although you're not the only one (blushing here) who tends to inadvertently reveal herself... And that means that I am not tech savvy enough to be able to backtrack and figure out who you are if you post the contest link on your blog... Just have anyone who you refer say that they are sworn to secrecy about who sent them.

Tomorrow is a Special Day
But if you don't know why tomorrow is special, and I had to check it out myself, you'll have to come back to find out why...
Today wasn't too shabby either. I just received my partner e-mail for the Scavenger Hunt Swap and I'm really excited about this! I like the way that this swap is based around 7 categories. It just kind of fits how my quirky mind works. Time to get researching... Let's hope that I can manage to keep myself anonymous, since a few of you know that that sometimes challenges me.
I haven't posted any knitting photos for ages, but since the computer saw "the Doctor" last week, it appears to be feeling much better and may be up to accepting some photos over the weekend. I have been knitting and do have photos to share. (It was a Spyware infestation, but nothing that a new hard drive couldn't fix... Country living bonus: Local self employed techs are MUCH less expensive than those high talkin' city techs!) There's a scarf that is almost done... A gnome that is coming along nicely... Clue 1 of the Secret of the Stole II is done... And probably a few other things that I've forgotten about. The cold makes my brain work much more slowly...

Scavenger Hunt Swap Questionnaire
The reality is that I have been debating about this swap since I first became aware of it... The more I learned the more intrigued I became. When I got a heads up from our swap hostess about how spots were filling up quickly - I was IN!!! I think that this is going to be so much fun! If you're really quick, at last tally there was still the possibility that you might just get in...
1) Do you knit, crochet or both? How long have you been doing it?
I am a knitter. I haven't truly mastered crochet but all of those cute little Amigurumis keep taunting me... I may have to learn it just a bit. I have been knitting for close to 30 years... Gosh - that makes me feel old!
2) What is on your needles/hook right now?
I've just cast off my swatch for Secret of the Stole II, so that isn't quite on my needles yet... (It will be tomorrow with the first clue.) And I'm still debating about my Sock It To Me Twice socks, so that aren't really on the needle yet either, but I had better get cracking. There is a scarf that is probably 75% done that has seen active time recently... And my older sister is turning 45 in February and I bought the yarn for an Alan Dart Gnome for her today, so that will be "on the needles" soon, too... What was the question? Okay, so I just don't feel like digging through the basket right now. There are "a few" sweaters in there, but I'm not entirely sure what else right now.
3) What is the most frequently used tool in your knitting bag?
My retractable measuring tape, followed closely by my notebook.
4) What are your 3 favorite yarns (fiber type or brand)? What are your 3 least favorite?
I don't really have any favourite brands, but I do have a strong preference for natural fibres so - wool, cotton, silk... (In reality I like all natural fibres.) Least favourites might be easier - anything involving words like "Phentex", "Sayelle" or "durable manmade fibres".
5) What is your favorite color?
I'm a pink, purple and green kind of girl, with some blue thrown in for good measure.
6) If you had a 5 minute shopping spree in your LYS, how would you plan your attack?
Fortunately, my LYS isn't that big and I am confident that I could clear all of the shelves in 5 minutes. However, theoretically I would need garbage bags. My starting point is the Manos del Urugauy, moving across the front of the store to take out the alpaca (various brands), the Noro, the Lana Gatto, skipping over the synthetics and onto the Patons SWS and Classic Wool before rounding the final corner to the sock yarn and finally the cash.
7) What is your favorite FO and why? (post a pic if you have it!)
My favourite non-wearable is my Lizard Ridge afghan. My favourite wearable is a beaded sweater I made from the Rowan 35 magazine... I hope to get a photo take of it soon so that I can get it up on Ravelry.
